Our Story
Some aspects of crafting custom clothing can be taught. Others are simply in the
blood. Scott Evan Wasserberger grew up as the son and grandson of custom suit
makers, even though the man with the initials SEW did not always know he would
follow in the family tradition.
Now the name of his Nolita shop, SEW is the culmination of more than 70-years of
tailoring heritage with Wasserberger's distinctively modern taste. The result of
his natural talent for selecting texture and color is a unique collection of
custom and off-the-rack clothing. Wasserberger's design philosophy melds
international influences to create an utterly original New York look. SEW deftly
mixes finery with grunge elements in custom clothing, yet still offers classic
bespoke looks.
These looks come together at SEW. The shop's visual centerpiece is an oversized
picture of the pre-war Berlin workshop of Wasserberger's grandfather. It lends a
factory feel to the inviting space but also hints at one of the store's chief
assets: SEW takes pride in ensuring that all shirts, jackets and suits are constructed
in New York by local artisans. Nothing is sent overseas.
The results are finely crafted clothing for today's stylish, sophisticated man.
